WARNING: Based on a recent report (March 2023), this run is full of wood and should be considered very dangerous.
Lower Rock Creek is the probably the most difficult creek run in the St. Francis Mountains. The logistics are bad and the whitewater is hard.
I finally ran it in 2008. Here’s the story.
Difficulty
Class IV. It drops 320′ in 2.5 miles with one 1 mile section dropping 200′.
Put-in/Take-out
To get to the put-in, you must hike 2 miles across private land, so I’m not going to tell you where it is. Take a look at the map below and you can probably figure it out.
The take-out is on hwy E. Heading from Fredricktown, it’s the first creek after the St. Francis river.
